Nowruz Routes

The Nowruz Routes is a unique fusion of tradition and change designed to preserve cherished memories and celebrate new beginnings. Inspired by the Iranian New Year celebration of Nowruz, which marks the beginning of spring, this planter encapsulates the essence of renewal, connection and coming together.

At the heart of Nowruz lies the Sabze, one of seven symbolic items representing new life and growth. Traditionally, seeds are planted on any clay pot or plate. The Nowruz Routes pot reimagines this tradition by allowing you to plant seeds on its surface, in this case, on its “roads”. The clay artifact takes its shape from the road map of where my grandmother's house is located, a location where we come together as a family to celebrate. The indents along its surface signify the roads while the overall shape is derived from the shape of the neighborhood block.

This design continues to run down onto the marble base rooting down the clay piece. This reimagined application of seeds serves as a beacon of nostalgia acting as a tangible symbol of cherished locations and memories. The planter serves as a living time capsule, preserving memories while fostering new growth. .
